Traineeship or master’s thesis possibility at EFI: Regional profile of a Finnish region related to wood mobilisation

The SIMWOOD project aims to identify best solutions to improve wood mobilisation all over Europe. The first step of this work consists of analysing best practices existing in very diverse contexts. A first deliverable presenting the main case study areas has been published by the project, but additional references for Nordic countries are missing.

A region in Finland will be studied to identify specific issues related to wood mobilisation in this country. The student will collect and report information covering the following topics:

  • Forest ownership
  • Forest governance
  • Forest management
  • Forest functions
  • Forest harvesting

As a conclusion of this work, main bottlenecks and factors of success for wood mobilisation will be discussed.

Skills required: Finnish native speaker, fluent English, knowledge of forest sector, good synthesis capacity. An interested master's student (or equivalent) could be hosted in EFI's Atlantic European Regional Office - EFIATLANTIC, in France.
